Director of ICATALIST, member of the European Scientific Council on Climate Change, lead author of IPCC Working Group II on Adaptation, Vulnerability and Impacts. She collaborates as an expert in the Spanish Citizens’ Climate Assembly.
At ICATALIST her role focuses on the development of strategic projects related to climate change adaptation and sustainability for different stakeholders, social innovation and innovation-based public policy. She leads an interdisciplinary team to implement projects that aim to have a positive impact, based on a range of products and services around shared values.
Founder and Director of ICATALIST. Elena completed her PhD at King’s College, London. She holds a Master’s degree from Cambridge University and a Master’s degree in Investigative Journalism, Data Management and Visualisation from the Juan Carlos I University with the newspaper “El Mundo”.
She was Associate Professor at IE Business School and Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics as Alcoa Research Fellow.
Professionally, Elena has worked with several organisations, including UNESCO, FAO, UNDP, the EU Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, universities and basin agencies, as well as with the private and third sectors.
She has published on a variety of topics mainly related to water security, social innovation, collaborative decision making, water governance, climate change adaptation, policy evaluation, knowledge management and transfer.
Its current main focus is on climate change adaptation, collective action and the role of green infrastructure, as well as strategic (ground) water management.

Her professional career of more than 20 years of experience has been developed in advertising agencies and in companies of very different sectors such as Healthcare, Cosmetics, Food, Beverages, Pharmaceuticals, Technology, among others.
Developing both online and offline campaigns for new product launches. Designing corporate identity, promotional materials and creating product visuals. As well as graphic advertisements, banners and promotional content for online advertising campaigns, including social media, websites and digital advertising platforms. Creating user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designs for websites, mobile applications and digital platforms, ensuring an attractive and functional experience for users.
She has also developed graphics for TV spots and digital environments. Her versatility and creative skills allow them to contribute to a wide variety of projects and sectors.
Editing and post-production of video and audiovisual content using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Throughout my career, I have developed projects for social media and corporate productions, combining visual narrative, dynamic pacing, and motion graphics.
Being part of Icatalist, she feels she can contribute to communicate in a visual way, innovative projects that captivate people and generate positive impact.
As art director at Icatalist, a consultancy specialising in climate change adaptation, I lead the conceptualisation and visual execution of our projects’ communication, both nationally and across Europe. My work ranges from the visual identity of initiatives to the design of graphic materials, content production for events and creative strategy on social media. My goal is to translate technical and scientific messages into clear, engaging, and coherent visual narratives that connect with diverse audiences and reinforce the impact of our actions on sustainability and climate resilience.
