Investigadora y consultora internacional especializada en seguridad hídrica y gobernanza. Convencida de que necesitamos enfoques sistémicos, transdisciplinares y holísticos para poder resolver los grandes y complejos retos que afrontamos como sociedad.

Directora de ICATALIST, miembro del Consejo Científico Europeo sobre Cambio Climático, autora principal del Grupo de Trabajo II del IPCC sobre Adaptación, vulnerabilidad e impactos. Colabora como Experta en la Asamblea Española Ciudadana por el clima.

En ICATALIST su rol se centra en el desarrollo de proyectos estratégicos relacionados con la adaptación al cambio climático y la sostenibilidad para diferentes actores, innovación social y políticas públicas basadas en la innovación. Dirige un equipo interdisciplinar para implementar proyectos que buscan tener un impacto positivo, basados en una gama de productos y servicios en torno a valores compartidos.

Fundadora y Directora de ICATALIST. Elena terminó su doctorado en King’s College, Londres. Tiene un Master de la Universidad de Cambridge y un Master en Periodismo de Investigación, Gestión de Datos y Visualización de la Universidad Juan Carlos I con el periodico “El Mundo”.

Fue Profesora Asociada de la IE Business School y Visiting Senior Fellow en la London School of Economics como Alcoa Research Fellow.

Profesionalmente, Elena ha colaborado con varias organizaciones, incluidas la UNESCO, la FAO, el PNUD, la Dirección General de Investigación e Innovación de la UE, universidades y agencias de cuencas, así como con el sector privado y el tercer sector.

Ha publicado sobre una variedad de temas relacionados principalmente con seguridad hídrica, innovación social, toma de decisiones colaborativas, gobernanza del agua, adaptación al cambio climático, evaluación de políticas públicas, gestión y transferencia de conocimiento.

Su enfoque actual principal es la adaptación al cambio climático, la acción colectiva y el papel de la infraestructura verde, así como la gestión estratégica del agua (subterránea).

Acerca de Bárbara Willaarts

Soy bióloga de formación, con amplia experiencia en planificación ambiental, gobernanza de los recursos naturales —especialmente del agua— y desarrollo de procesos participativos para la búsqueda de soluciones innovadoras a problemas complejos en la interfaz entre agua, desarrollo territorial y sostenibilidad.

Mi objetivo profesional es generar conocimiento, herramientas y procesos de capacitación que contribuyan a tener una sociedad más informada y a mejorar la toma de decisiones.

En ICATALIST soy responsable del área de participación y capacitación, coordinando actualmente la contribución al proyecto europeo NATALIE sobre soluciones basadas en la naturaleza. Además, colaboro con administraciones e instituciones públicas en el desarrollo de estrategias de participación y en el co-diseño de visiones y estrategias para la gestión sostenible de los recursos hídricos.
